Move everything to the new machine
Pictures, documents, music, and work files, including from a computer that no longer starts.
Signs you need this
- A new computer waiting on the files from the old one
- An old machine that will not start, with things still on it
- Years of photos on a computer you no longer trust
- Files scattered across several old machines and drives
- A work laptop being replaced with a deadline attached
What the work involves
Moving files sounds simple until you find the things that are not in the obvious folders: mail, browser bookmarks and saved passwords, application settings, and whatever lives in the places software puts data without telling you.
A machine that will not boot is still usually readable. The drive can generally be reached directly even when the computer around it has failed, which is a different job from data recovery, where the drive itself is the problem.
The transfer is verified before the old machine is considered finished with.
In short
Need to move your pictures, documents, music, work files? We can move them to your new computer, even if the older computer is no longer functioning.
What it costs
- Residential
- $125 per hour, one hour minimum.
- Business
- $160 per hour, one hour minimum.
- Coming to you
- $35 on-site fee in the local area. There is no on-site fee for work done remotely.
Common questions
- My old computer will not turn on. Is the data gone?
- Usually not. A computer failing to start is often a problem with the machine rather than the drive, and the drive can normally still be read. If the drive itself has failed, that becomes data recovery.
- Will my email and bookmarks come across too?
- That is the intention. Those live in less obvious places than documents, which is exactly why they get missed when a transfer is done in a hurry.
